A Canadian Icon: The Royal Canadian Mounted Police 

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) is Canada’s national police force, and is one of the most respected and well-known law-enforcement agencies in the world. The RCMP’s “Depot” Division located in Regina is considered the “Cradle of the Force,” because all RCMP members receive their training here. and 2010 marked the 125th anniversary of the RCMP’s historic academy.



CTC Canadian Signature Experiences Collection: RCMP Heritage Centre/Sunset Retreat Ceremony
The stunning RCMP Heritage Centre, located adjacent to the academy, chronicles the story of the Force from the lawless days of the old west, to the challenges of policing in the north, and modern forensic technology. Opened in 2007, the Centre is a stunning glass and stone facility designed by world-renowned architect Arthur Erickson. State-of-the-art technology and multimedia rich galleries educate visitors about the vital role the RCMP has played in shaping Canada’s past and present.

The Sunset Retreat Ceremony is a colourful, 60-minute ceremony that includes the firing of the cannon, a troop drill display, lowering of the flag with the playing of military music, followed by the March Past. Troop members wear the traditional scarlet tunic of the world-renowned Royal Canadian Mounted Police. The event is held every Tuesday from July 1 until mid-August and starts at 6:30, weather permitting.
